Dissociation Causes

Most dissociate symptoms can be explained through the triggering of an altered state of consciousness. Just about everyone experiences altered states such as when day-dreaming or as we fall asleep. We tend to slip quite easily in and out of these states and they're quite pleasant and relaxing. We usually do it when we're bored or tired. At other times when we're under stress, its the mind's way of taking a break for a short period. We know when we're doing it and we have complete control over it.

Signs of moving into altered states:

A small portion of the population will experience sudden, deep and unexpected shifts into an altered state, through no choice of their own. Usually the experience is brief, while for others episodes may last for hours, even days at a time as the resulting high levels of anxiety keep re-activating the state.
